LGS - Gospel Choir - history

Lucan Gospel Choir was formed in February 1998 by Bernie Martin.  We perform at a wide variety of events throughout Leinster - weddings, charity fund-raisers, corporate occasions, as backing/harmony group and at concerts.

Our guiding principle is professional singing in a friendly environment. Our members come from all walks with one thing in common - we love to sing.

Over the years the group has performed in many large venues throughout the country, including the O’Mahony Hall in the Helix, Dublin (2010), the Riverbank Theatre, Newbridge (2008), the Olympia Theatre, Dublin (2007), the Draíocht Theatre, Blanchardstown (2006) as well as smaller local venues throughout Ireland. The choir has also travelled internationally, to the USA (Oregon) in 2000, and to Malta in 2007.

The membership of the choir has grown from the initial 10 to 60 at present, and new members are encouraged on an ongoing basis. It is currently one of the largest Gospel choirs in the country, and also one of the most versatile, with repertoire ranging from well-known Gospel standards such as ‘Happy Day’ and ‘Joyful, Joyful’ to pieces especially written and arranged for the choir by the musical directors.
